Description

Kornél Szilvay (1890-1957) was a Hungarian engineer, firefighter, head of the Budapest fire brigade and one of the foremost figures in Hungarian firefighting and an outstanding figure in Hungarian technical history. He believe that the safety of firefighters and property was very important. On 30 June 1928 he patented the Szilvay firefighting equipment for suppressing fires with powder or foam, and also commissioned the first high-powered dry fire extinguisher.

Front: A depiction of the universal firetruck patented by Szilvay is shown in the centre field of the front of the coin. The denomination “2000” and “FORINT” is found in two lines the upper right corner of the coin, with the legend “MAGYARORSZÁG” at the bottom. In the upper left corner, the date “2015” is located above the firetruck parallel
with the rim, while the mint mark “BP.” is found at the bottom.
Back:The back bears a portrait of Kornél Szilvay in the centre field surrounded by a frame, with the master mark of designer Balázs Bitó in the lower left corner. Outside of the frame, on the rim of the coin runs the legend “SZILVAY KORNÉL” at the top, with “A SZÁRAZOLTÁS ATYJA” parallel with the right rim, the dates “1890–1957” in the lower right corner and
“TŰZOLTÓPARANCSNOK” parallel with the left rim.
