Description

Donát Bánki (1859-1922) was a Hungarian engineer, inventor and university professor, who taught hydraulic machinery, compressor and steam turbine structural engineering. The commemorative coin issued in his honour is a part of the series of coins presenting Hungarian engineers, inventors, and their technical novelties and inventions.

Front: The front of the coin has the mandatory elements (the denomination: 1000 Forint, the legend: Magyar Köztársaság, the mint mark: BP. and the date: 2009), along with a stylised picture of a water turbine designed by the inventor.
Back:The back has a portrait of Donát Bánki and the legends “Bánki Donát”, “1859-1922”, “a Bánki-féle vízturbina feltalálója”. In the right lower corner is the master mark of the designer Balázs Bitó.
