Description

Albert Szent-Györgyi (1893-1986) was a Hungarian doctor and biochemist. He won the Nobel Prize in 1937 and remains the only Hungarian to have won this renowned award for scientific work performed in Hungary. This coin is part of the series presenting Hungarian Nobel Prize winners, with a unique oval shape!

Front: The front has the mandatory elements, such as the legend “MAGYARORSZÁG”, the mint mark “BP.”, the date “2012” and the denomination “3000” and “FORINT”. The main motif is two Hungarian paprikas, one whole in the foreground and one cut in half in the background, referring to the fact that larger amounts of vitamin C were first extracted from Szeged paprika.
Back:The back of the coin has a portrait of Albert Szent-Györgyi. To the right of the portrait, in four horizontal lines is the text “LÁTNI, AMIT MINDENKI LÁT ÉS GONDOLNI, AMIT MÉG SENKI NEM GONDOLT.”, while lower circular legend reads “SZENT-GYÖRGYI ALBERT 1937 NOBEL-DÍJ”. To the right of the portrait is the master mark of designer Fanni Vékony.
