Description

The film ‘A Táncz’ was the first staged Hungarian film production.
It was shot in 1901, as a motion picture illustration of a performance at the Uránia Scientific Theatre. Gyula Pekár requested motion pictures from Béla Zsitkovszky, the projectionist at the Uránia. Originally a photographer, Zsitkovszky was thrilled with the opportunity and set about work on the Uránia’s rooftop terrace with the leading actors of that day and ballerina dancers from the Opera House. The 24 cinematographic films were presented on 30 April 1901.
