Description
1996 marked the 50th anniversary of the introduction of Hungary’s new legal tender, the forint, on 1 August 1946, following the hyperinflation that hit the pengő. The forint is one of Europe’s oldest monies. In 1325, King Charles Robert was the first sovereign to mint forints, which were patterned on the coins of Florence.
Front: The front of the silver coin has the mandatory elements, the denomination 2000 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1996, the legend Magyar Köztársaság and the designer’s mark, along with the coat-of-arms of Hungary, a stylised flag and the Anjou lily of King Charles Robert.
Back:The back of the coin has the legend ‘ÖTVENÉVES A FORINT’ and images of Hungarian forint and fillér coins.
