Description

Part of the series presenting nature conservation
The European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis) is Hungary’s only species of turtle. It is still found in relatively large numbers in Hungary, but it is threatened by numerous factors and is in decline. Drainage of wetlands and construction are destroying its habitats (lakes, swamps) and nesting areas, and road traffic is also leading to declining numbers.

Front: The front has the mandatory elements: the denomination 200 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1985 and the legend Magyar Népköztársaság.
Back:The back has the legend ‘HA KEDVES AZ ÉLETE’ (If you value life) and ‘Mocsári teknős (Emys orbicularis)’, along with the designer’s mark.
