Description
Mária Telkes was born in Budapest on 12 December 1900. She studied chemistry and physics at the University of Budapest, receiving her PhD in 1924. After completing her studies, she started working in the United States, researching the use of solar energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During this period, she created the first exclusively solar-heated home. She was responsible for many other patents and discoveries, most of which were related to the use of solar energy, but she also discovered cold storage, which generated massive development in the air conditioning industry. Her work was honoured with twelve international awards.
