Old ships of Lake Balaton: Helka and Kelén
In 1891, the company Balatontavi Gőzhajózási Rt. built two identical propeller-driven passenger ships, which were christened the Helka and the Kelén, recalling two famous lovers. Helka and Kelén were two very elegant, black steamboats, with a promenade deck and two masts.
Front: The front of this silver coin has the mandatory elements: the denomination 2000 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1997 and the legend Magyar Köztársaság, along with a landscape from the Balaton with the Badacsony Mountain in the background.
Back:The back bears the legends ‘RÉGI BALATONI HAJÓK’, ‘HELKA ÉS KELÉN’ and ‘1891’, along with a contemporary picture of the Helka and Kelén which were launched in 1891.
