Marking the 30th anniversary of the launch of the ‘Telstar 1’ telecommunications satellite.
Telstar was the first telecommunications satellite to perform active, direct broadcasting. It was developed based on an agreement by AT&T, Bell Telephone Laboratories, NASA and the UK and French post offices. It was launched by NASA from Cape Canaveral on 10 June 1962.
Front: The front of this silver coin has the mandatory elements, the denomination 500 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1992, the legend Magyar Köztársaság, the designer’s mark and the coat-of-arms of Hungary.
Back:The back has the legends ‘TELSTAR 1’ and ‘1962’, along with a stylised depiction of a satellite above the Earth.
