Description

Part of the series World Heritage sites in Hungary
The Tokaj wine region, also known as the Tokaj foothills wine region has been the world’s first geographically well-defined wine region since 1737. It lies at the southern and south-eastern foot of the Zemplén mountains and encompasses an area of 6,202 hectares. The Tokaj Wine Region was inscribed on the list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee in 2002 in the category of cultural landscapes. The city of Tokaj is the symbol of this wine region. The city preserves centuries of wine-making tradition, along with significant, unique architectural heritage and local traditions.

Front: The mandatory elements (the denomination: 5000 FORINT, the legend: MAGYAR KÖZTÁRSASÁG, the mint mark: BP. and the date: 2008) are found on the front of the coin, with a wreath of grape leaves running around the rim.
Back:The back depicts the Tokaj mountain, with the TV tower on top and the settlement with the church at the foot and vineyards in the foreground. The master mark of designer Gábor Gáti is also found here, along with the “Euro Star”, as this coin appeared as part of the international collector programme “Europa”.
