Description

Paris will host the world’s largest sporting event, the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games between 26 July and 11 August 2024, and the most important competition for athletes with disabilities, the XVII Summer Paralympic Games between 28 August to 8 September 2024. The French capital is the second city ever to hold the Summer Olympics three times and will be hosting the Paralympics for the first time. At the Paris Games, 10,500 athletes from more than 200 countries will be competing for the medals in 32 types of sports with a total of 329 individual disciplines. The Hungarian Olympic Team, which has won a total of 525 medals over the last 128 years including 184 gold medals, is expected to consist of 190 athletes. Similar to the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, athletes will compete in 22 types of sports with 549 individual disciplines at the Paris Games. Hungarian athletes have won 160 medals at past Paralympics Games. The team in Paris will be the largest ever with more than 50 members, who aim to achieve the best results ever.

Front: The front of the coin features a modern presentation of four sports – hammer throw, canoeing, swimming and para table tennis – in which Hungarian athletes are medal contenders. The horizontal lines around the figures symbolise the dynamic natures of the sports themselves and waves on water. The compulsory design elements: the inscription ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’, the value numerals 15000 forint, the mint mark ‘BP’ and the mint year ‘2024’ are also on the obverse.
Back: The back shows an abstract depiction of a stadium, with the logos of the Hungarian Olympic Team and the Hungarian Paralympic Team in the centre field. The static image on the back is rendered more dynamic by lines similar to the front, symbolising the fans and in a broader sense the social base supporting the athletes. The semi-circular legend at the top reads “MAGYAR OLIMPIAI ÉS PARALIMPIAI CSAPAT” (Hungarian Olympic and Paralympic Team), with the location of the Games “PÁRIZS” (Paris) at the bottom.
