Description

The first independent Hungarian State Audit Office (SAO) was established in 1870. As the National Assembly’s independent financial controller, it has been monitoring public finances for one and a half centuries. Its operation was ended in 1949, but following the political transition in 1989, the State Audit Office has been the financial guarantor of Hungary’s democracy since 1 January 1990.

Front:The centre field of the front of the coin presents a drawing of part of the
earlier building of the Royal Hungarian Audit Office located on the Bem
rakpart in Budapest. The front also has the mandatory elements: the legend “MAGYARORSZÁG”, the denomination 10000 FORINT, the mint mark “BP.” with security features in micro-script and the date of issue “2020”.
Back: The back of the coin has the official logo of the State Audit Office as its central motif. The central motif is encircled by a raised band, which presents the values represented by the SAO in four lines (legality, transparency, accountability, integrity in public life,
achievement, effectiveness, expediency) in block capitals and in hexadecimal code form. The dual nature of the anniversary is referred to with the repeating text around the coin’s edge: állami számvevőszék 1870 • 1990 • 2020. The coin was designed by the sculptor Balázs Pelcz.
