Description

István Csók (1865-1961) was a Hungarian Impressionist painter. Csok lived and exhibited in Paris for a portion of his life. He became most famous in Hungary for his nudes, portraits, and landscapes of the Lake Balaton. Csok had many international exhibitions in such cities as Rome, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and London. He won the Kossuth Prize twice.

Front: The centre of the obverse of the commemorative coin bears a detail of ‘The Awakening of Spring’, a painting by István Csók. The value numeral corresponding to the base metal of the coin and the inscriptions ‘FORINT’ and ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’ are placed in three parallel lines on the upper right edge. The mint year ‘2015’ and the mint mark ‘BP’ are positioned in two parallel lines on the lower right edge.
Back:The reverse of the collector coin bears a self-portrait detail, shown as the mirror image of the ‘Studio Corner’ by István Csók. To the left of the self-portrait, the coin is inscribed with ‘CSÓK’, ‘ISTVÁN’, ‘1865’ and ‘1961’ in four parallel lines, raised from the surface. The initials of designer Mihály Fritz are positioned on the left edge of the collector coin.
