St. Martin’s Hill, upon which the Archabbey sits, is often simply referred to as Pannonhalma. The Archabbey was founded in 996 and has been a functioning Benedictine monastery since then. It is one of Hungary’s outstanding historical sites as an ecclesiastic and art history centre.

Front: The front of this silver coin has the mandatory elements, the denomination 1000 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1996, the legend Magyar Köztársaság and the designer’s mark, along with the signet-print of the Abbot Oros.
