Description

The first steamship on the Danube was the Carolina, which was built by A. Bernhard in Sellye by the Drava River and launched on 21 March 1817, after which it was towed to Vienna. It first arrived in Pest on 5 September 1817. It had a length of 13.37 metres, a beam of 3.16 metres and a draught of 1.02 metres. Ship traffic on the Danube in Budapest started with the Carolina on 16 July 1820.

Front: The front of this silver coin has the mandatory elements, the denomination 500 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1994, the legend Magyar Köztársaság, the designer’s mark and the coat-of-arms of Hungary.
Back:The back bears the legends ‘RÉGI DUNAI HAJÓK’ and ‘1817’, along with an image of the steamship Carolina.
