Description

Matthias I (Matthias Corvinus, 1443-1490) was king of Hungary from 1458 to 1490. His moniker ‘Corvinus’ (meaning ‘crow’) came from the crow on the coat-of-arms of the Hunyadi family. This coin is a fitting tribute to Hungary’s great King Matthias.

Front: The front of this silver coin has the mandatory elements: the denomination 500 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1990, the legend Magyar Köztársaság and the designer’s mark, incorporated into a three-pointed motif taken from a silver denar struck by King Matthias.
Back:The back bears views of medieval Buda and Vienna, along with an image of the front of the gold forint coin issued under King Matthias.
Keywords:history, kings, king, Matthias, silver, 1990
