Description
In the final decades of the Cold War, the political, economic and cultural ties between the Western and Eastern bloc countries grew more and more intensive. As part of détente, at a meeting in Madrid in 1983, Hungary was the first socialist country to be awarded the right to host the 1985 European Cultural Forum.
Front: The front has the mandatory elements: the denomination 500 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 1985, the legend Magyar Népköztársaság and the designer’s mark.
Back:The back has the coat-of-arms of Budapest at the top of a renaissance column, with a stylised bird figure and the legend ‘CULTURAL FORUM BUDAPEST’, ‘15.10.-25.11.’ and ‘1985’.
