Description

An accurate copy of St. Stephen’s first silver dénár coin. The original was likely minted by St. Stephen immediately after his coronation. It was found in a hoard with 40 silver dénárs attributed to St. Stephen in Nagyharsány in 1968.

Front: The front of the coin depicts a hand holding a lance, with a small flag bearing the text “LANCEA REGIS”. The lance was one of the symbols of royal power.
One of the original coins was loaned by the Hungarian National Museum for the purposes of minting the copy. The copy is certified with the mint mark of the Hungarian Mint Ltd., which is located to the side of the lance.
Back:The legend “REGIA CIVITAS” runs around a church on the back of the coin.
