Description
József, Baron Eötvös, (1813-1871) was a novelist, essayist, educator, and statesman, whose life and writings were devoted to the creation of a modern Hungarian literature and to the establishment of a modern democratic Hungary.
Front: The collector coin was designed by goldsmith artist Géza Kertész. At the top in the centre of the obverse, the inscription ‘MAGYARORSZÁG’, the value numeral ‘3000’ and the inscription ‘FORINT’ appear in superimposed horizontal lines. The left side of the coin bears the representation of a closed book, with the legend ‘EÖTVÖS JÓZSEF MUNKÁI’ (the works of József Eötvös). The mint year ‘2013’ and the mint mark ‘BP.’ are positioned on the lower right edge of the coin, arranged horizontally in two lines.
Back: On the left, the reverse bears a representation of the head-and-shoulders portrait of József Eötvös. The legends ‘EÖTVÖS JÓZSEF’ and ‘1813-1871’ are inscribed to the right of the portrait, on the edge of the coin, separated by circular dot motifs. The representations of the handwriting and signature of József Eötvös are positioned in the background of the portrait. The initials of designer Géza Kertész are to the right of the portrait, on the edge of the coin.
