The HUNOR Hungarian Astronaut Program will enable Hungary to send a person into space again after fourti-five years.Our research astronaut will conduct experiments for Hungarian universities, companies, and research labs onboard the International Space Station, leveraging the unique envirovment of radiation and microgravity in space, while the reserve astronaut will support the mission from Earth. The experiments performed in space will be exloited on Earth, contributing to innovations in medicine, technology, and material science.
The mission will help enhance the international recognition of Hungary’s space sector and scientific life and create new opportunities for Hungary to be a part of one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors. The program aims to inspire the curiosity of young minds in the fields of natural sciences and techology, and to promote space research and the importance of human spaceflight to future generatons.
This Hungarian legal tender coin set pays tribute to the HUNOR Hungarian Astronaut Program, while also commemorating the work of our predecessors – from Zoltán Bay’s Moon radar experiment to the pioneering work of Theodore von Kármán and Bertalan Farkas’ spaceflight, and the development of the Pille dosimeter. Our circulation set includes the full series of 2025 circulation forint coins (5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 forints) in BU quality.
