Description

Zsuzsanna Lórántffy was the wife of Prince György Rákóczi I and a patroness, who was dedicated to founding a school for the education of the young, the poor and the talented, and to spreading the teachings of the Reformation. In 1651, she established a printing press mainly for textbooks and the scholarly works of teachers. With these works and her family’s collection of books which was donated to the school, she laid the foundations for a famous library. A commemorative coin for a truly wonderful woman!

Front: One half of the front of this silver coin has the mandatory elements: the denomination 2000 Forint, the mint mark BP., the date 2000, the legend Magyar Köztársaság and the designer’s mark. The other half of the front of this semi-circular coin, which is joined in the middle by a column from the Lórántffy manor with the motif of the Moon and the Sun in the arches above, has six lines.
Back: The other half has the legends ‘LÓRÁNTFFY ZSUZSANNA’, ‘KOLL. SÁROSPATAK’, along with the coat-of-arms of the Sárospatak Reformed College.
