Description
Peter Lax is a Hungarian-born American mathematician, who was born on 1 May 1926. A professor of mathematics, Lax mainly focused on applied mathematics, with his key research fi elds including the theory of partial differential equations, fl uid dynamics and computational science. He won the Wolf Prize in Mathematics in 1987 for his“outstanding contributions to many areas of analysis and applied mathematics”. In 2005, he was awarded the Abel Prize for his “for his groundbreaking contributions to the theory and application of partial differential equations and to the computation of their solutions.” Peter Lax earned his degree at New York University and worked there for most of his life.
