Description
Count Miklós Zrínyi (1620-1664) was Ban of Croatia, hereditary count of Zala and Somogy counties, a noble landowner, poet, military leader, politician and military strategist. His most important works were: Stories about the Life of King Matthias, The Siege of Sziget, Medicine Against the Opium of the Turks.
Front: The front of the coin bears a portrait of Miklós Zrínyi in the centre field, based on the painting by Jan Thomas. The upper circular legend reads “MAGYARORSZÁG”, while the lower legend has the denomination “5000” and “FORINT”. Between the upper and lower legend, one finds the mint year “2014” on the left and the mint mark “BP.” on the right.
Back:The centre of the back of the coin has the Csáktornya Castle, with the stylised depiction of a river below it. Above the castle is the horizontal legend “1620-1664”, while below the river there is a ribbon -shaped band with the legend “CSÁKTORNYA”, with the master mark of the designer László Hunyadi found below that. The upper circular legend reads “ZRÍNYI MIKLÓS” and the lower circular legend reads “SORS BONA, NIHIL ALIUD”. The upper and lower legends are separated by periods on the left and right sides.
