Description

The set includes the gold plated silver re-strike version of the golden florin issued by Ladislaus V (1440-1457). The minting activities of King Ladislaus V (the Posthumous) of Hungary (1453–1457), who was crowned king when just a few weeks old, can be divided into two periods. Between 1440 and 1452, coins were minted simultaneously in the name of Vladislaus I (1440–1444), regent John Hunyadi (1446–1452) and Ladislaus V. After ascending the throne in 1453, however, his power extended to all of the mints in Hungary, and he was thus able to continue the issue of gold florins from the mints at Nagybánya (present-day Baia Mare, Romania) and Nagyszeben (present-day Sibiu, Romania), and not just Körmöcbánya (present and 1452, coins were minted simultaneously in the name of Vladislaus I (1440–1444), regent John Hunyadi (1446–1452) and Ladislaus V.
