Description

The Hungarian Meteorological Service (OMSZ) celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. On 8 April 1870, Emperor Franz Joseph signed the founding document of the “Royal Hungarian Central Institute of Meteorology and Earth Magnetism”,initiating the establishment of this institution with the goals of investigating the climatic features of Hungary and organising and assessing meteorological measurements. The Service took it current name in 1970, on its 100th anniversary.

Front:“The front of the coin shows the figure of a cyclone, based on the Hungarian
Meteorological Service logo, offset just slightly to the left of centre. The front also has the mandatory elements: the legend “MAGYARORSZÁG”, the denomination 10 000 FORINT, the mint mark “BP.” with security features in micro-script and the date of issue “2020”.”
Back: “The back of the coin depicts the Lake Balaton region, with a synoptic map of a cold
and warm front system associated with a cyclone. Incorporated into the image is the mark of designer Mercédesz Molnár, on the bottom right.”
